The Ambassador of Italy to Côte d’Ivoire, Roberta Di Lecce, attended the official handover ceremony of motorcycles intended for educational advisers within the Ivorian education system, held at the Lycée Classique d’Abidjan, in the presence of the Minister of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education, representatives of Ivorian institutions, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and the AVSI Foundation.
The initiative is part of the REUSSIR project – Strengthening the Quality of Primary Education in Côte d’Ivoire, funded by the Italian Cooperation through AICS and implemented by the AVSI Foundation in collaboration with the relevant Ivorian Ministry and partner organisations. With an Italian contribution of €10 million, the project aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning in 800 primary schools across 18 regions of the country, benefiting approximately 192,000 pupils and 4,800 teachers.
The handover of the motorcycles will help strengthen the operational capacity of Ivorian education services by facilitating the mobility of educational advisers, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas, thereby enabling more effective support for teachers and regular monitoring of educational activities.
In her remarks, the Ambassador reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to strengthening the Ivorian education system, highlighting the central role of education in promoting inclusive and sustainable development. The initiative forms part of the strategic partnership between Italy and Côte d’Ivoire, a priority country for Italian Development Cooperation and a pilot country under the Mattei Plan for Africa, confirming the shared commitment to investing in the education of younger generations and strengthening local institutions.
