Services for the Italian citizen

Consular services and assistance from the Embassy are provided upon explicit request of Italian citizens residing in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Niger, and Sierra Leone, in the cases provided for by law and in accordance with principles of equality, impartiality, efficiency, and transparency, while respecting local laws.

Enrollment in AIRE is a prerequisite for receiving regular consular services.

Pursuant to Law 470/88, Italian citizens residing abroad for more than 12 months are subject to the obligation to register in A.I.R.E. (Register of Italians Residing Abroad). This registration—which is FREE—must be carried out directly by the citizen through the “Fast-IT” portal.

It is also important to keep one’s registration information up to date. In particular, failure to update changes of residence makes it impossible to contact the citizen, especially in case of emergency and to ensure rapid and effective consular assistance. These updates can also be carried out autonomously by the citizen via the “Fast-IT” portal. For any changes not available via Fast-IT, an email can be sent to consolare.abidjan@esteri.it.

Those who are in Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burkina Faso, or Niger for less than 12 months—i.e., temporarily—are strongly encouraged to register their trip via the “Dove Siamo nel Mondo” portal (or via the “Viaggiare Sicuri” app), managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Presence should also be reported to the Consular Chancellery (consolare.abidjan@esteri.it), and for Sierra Leone, also to the Honorary Consulate General in Freetown (italian.cc.sl@gmail.com).

Lastly, citizens are encouraged to regularly consult the website and/or smartphone app “Viaggiare Sicuri“.
