VISA FEE: FREE
The “study – vocational training” visa is intended for foreign students who wish to attend in Italy a training programme aimed at obtaining a qualification or a skills certification. These are courses lasting less than twenty‑four (24) months and they must be organised exclusively by training institutions accredited under regional regulations. The student must also demonstrate that the chosen course is consistent with their previous educational background.
Particular attention is required for courses in the medical‑health sector. If the training programme includes activities involving contact with patients or the performance of healthcare tasks, the student must obtain prior recognition of their qualification from the Ministry of Health. If the course does not include clinical activities, the healthcare facility must issue a formal declaration confirming the absence of such activities. There is, however, an exception: non‑EU doctors participating in professional development or training initiatives involving clinical activities may obtain the visa on the basis of the temporary authorization decree issued by the Ministry of Health, as provided for by the decree of 10 April 2018. In this case, recognition of the academic qualification is not required.
What documentation is required?
To obtain the visa, the applicant must submit, in addition to the duly completed and signed application form, a valid travel document and passport photos:
- Documentation confirming enrolment in the vocational training course to be attended (indicating duration, programme, qualification awarded, etc.);
- Documentation relating to the education and training acquired in the country of origin;
- Declaration of Value or CIMEA Statement (where required);
- Round‑trip travel ticket (or booking);
- Proof of sufficient financial means for the requested period of stay, not lower than the parameters set out in “Table A” of the Directive of the Ministry of the Interior of 1 March 2000. For this purpose, bank statements and payslips — personal or of the applicant’s parents — for the previous 6 months must be submitted. If multiple bank accounts are held, the account on which the salary is paid must also be included;
- Health/medical insurance valid in Italy for medical care and hospitalisation, without limitations or exclusions;
- Proof of adequate accommodation (confirmed hotel reservation for at least one month, rental contract, or declaration of hospitality).
