The first edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/strong> took place on 22 and 23 October<\/strong> at Alassane Ouattara University in Bouak\u00e9<\/strong>, with the aim of promoting knowledge of the Italian language among young Ivorians and strengthening cultural, academic and economic ties between Italy and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire. Organised as part of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, the initiative involved Alassane Ouattara University, Fondazione L\u2019Albero della Vita and the Italian Club founded by two former recipients of Italian Government scholarships.<\/p>\n

The 26th edition of the Week, celebrated internationally from 19 to 25 October 2026, is dedicated to the theme \u201cA brilliant language: conceiving, designing and creating with Italian\u201d<\/strong>, chosen to highlight the connection between the Italian language and culture and the country\u2019s ability to innovate and create value in the fields of technology, science, engineering, design, fashion, gastronomy, literature and the arts.<\/p>\n

In her opening remarks, the Ambassador of Italy to C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Roberta Di Lecce, underlined the commitment of the Embassy of Italy in Abidjan to creating new opportunities for learning Italian in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cA language is a gateway: to a culture, but also to education, employment and new professional opportunities. Our objective is to enable more and more young Ivorians to learn Italian and, through our language, to discover more about Italy and the opportunities arising from the increasingly close relations between our two countries,\u201d<\/strong> the Ambassador said.<\/p>\n

Promoting the Italian language takes on particular significance at the current stage of bilateral relations. C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire is one of the priority countries of Italian Development Cooperation and one of the pilot countries of the Mattei Plan for Africa<\/strong>, in which education, training and human capital development are among the key areas of intervention.<\/p>\n

In this context, knowledge of Italian can provide an additional skill for young Ivorians interested in pursuing academic and professional pathways connected with Italy. The Week therefore seeks to present Italian not only as a great language of culture, but also as a language of business, research, technology, design and innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The professional dimension of language learning was also explored with the participation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire (CCI-CI)<\/strong> and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in West Africa (CISAO)<\/strong>, which highlighted the opportunities that knowledge of Italian can open up in accessing the labour market and developing relations with Italian businesses. This approach is also put into practice through Fondazione L\u2019Albero della Vita\u2019s CASA \u2013 Cooperazione al Servizio dell\u2019Apprendimento<\/strong> project, aimed at strengthening the transition from education to employment through vocational training, internships and stronger links between training institutions and businesses.<\/p>\n

Particular attention was devoted to opportunities for studying in Italy, with a remote presentation by Uni-Italia<\/strong>, Italy\u2019s national organisation for promoting higher education in Italy worldwide, which provides guidance and assistance to international students and supports academic cooperation between Italian and foreign institutions.<\/p>\n

The initiative also aims to encourage new partnerships between Italian and Ivorian universities<\/strong>, promoting contacts between academic institutions, student and faculty mobility, and potential cooperation in education and research.<\/p>\n

Opportunities for young people wishing to continue their studies in Italy were also at the heart of the programme, with a presentation on Italian Government scholarships and mobility procedures for study purposes.<\/p>\n

The first Week of the Italian Language in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire thus seeks to mark the beginning of a broader project: to progressively strengthen the presence of Italian within C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s educational and academic landscape and make language an additional bridge between the societies, universities and economies of the two countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n
