{"id":2914,"date":"2026-01-11T18:24:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T17:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/?page_id=2914"},"modified":"2026-01-12T18:25:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T17:25:41","slug":"diplomatic-visa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/national-visas-type-d\/diplomatic-visa\/","title":{"rendered":"Diplomatic Visa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>diplomatic visa<\/strong> for accreditation or notification allows <strong>holders of a diplomatic or service passport<\/strong> to enter and reside in Italy for a <strong>long\u2011term, open\u2011ended period<\/strong>, when they are assigned to serve at the diplomatic or consular representations of their country in Italy or at the Holy See.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The visa is also issued to members of the holder\u2019s cohabiting family unit:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>the <strong>spouse or partner<\/strong> in a same\u2011sex civil union, aged 18 or over;<\/li>\n<li><strong>children under 21 years of age<\/strong> (or under 25, provided international reciprocity exists), <strong>including those of the spouse or born out of wedlock<\/strong>. For <strong>minors<\/strong> who are the children of only one of the applicants, a <strong>travel authorisation<\/strong> from the other biological parent is required. <strong>Adopted, fostered or legally tutored children<\/strong>, as defined in Article 29(2) of Legislative Decree 286\/1998, are treated in the same manner;<\/li>\n<li><strong>children with disabilities<\/strong>, regardless of age;<\/li>\n<li><strong>parents<\/strong> (including those of the spouse) <strong>who are cohabiting and financially dependent<\/strong> on the principal beneficiary, provided international reciprocity exists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Visa applications must be submitted <strong>through diplomatic channels<\/strong>, via a <strong>Note Verbale<\/strong> issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or by the competent diplomatic\u2011consular Representation of the requesting State. The Note Verbale must include the <strong>full and exact personal details<\/strong> of the principal beneficiary and of all cohabiting family members for whom a diplomatic visa is requested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Note Verbale must <strong>explicitly indicate<\/strong> whether the diplomat for whom the visa is requested will assume duties <strong>in replacement of a predecessor<\/strong> (whose full and exact personal details must be provided) <strong>or<\/strong> whether <strong>the position is newly established<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The issuance of the visa is subject to the <strong>Nulla Osta of the Diplomatic Protocol of the Italian Republic<\/strong> of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Once entry has been authorised, the Protocol issues to the holder and their cohabiting family members a <strong>special identity card<\/strong>, which replaces the residence permit and certifies the beneficiary\u2019s diplomatic or consular status. The request for the special identity card must be submitted within <strong>thirty (30) days<\/strong> of entry into Italy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What if I want to bring my private domestic staff?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Applications for entry visas for <strong>subordinate work outside the quotas<\/strong> in favour of <strong>private domestic staff<\/strong> accompanying diplomatic officials, technical\u2011administrative personnel, consular officials, or officials of International Organisations based in Italy must also be <strong>submitted via Note Verbale<\/strong> from the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from the competent diplomatic\u2011consular Representation of the requesting State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Note Verbale must be accompanied by a <a href=\"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/fac-simile-contratto-di-lavoro-per-lavoratori-domestici.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>work contract<\/strong><\/a> compliant with current regulations, as well as by a <strong>declaration from the employer<\/strong> undertaking to provide the worker with social security coverage, health insurance, and to guarantee the worker\u2019s return to their home country upon expiry of the contract.
