For\u00a0<strong>minors<\/strong>, the form must be submitted and signed by the person exercising parental responsibility or by a legal guardian. In addition, a\u00a0<strong>travel authorisation<\/strong>\u00a0must be provided by each person exercising parental responsibility who is\u00a0<strong>not accompanying the minor<\/strong>, or, in their absence, by the legal guardian. Such authorisation must be\u00a0<strong>issued in accordance with the laws in force in the minor\u2019s country of residence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Who evaluates visa applications?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Visa applications are evaluated\u00a0<strong>exclusively by the Embassy of Italy in Abidjan<\/strong>. The Visa Office may, at any stage of the procedure, summon the applicant for a consular interview or request additional documentation beyond what is indicated in the information pages.<\/p>\n<p>Submitting all required documentation\u00a0<strong>does not automatically guarantee<\/strong>\u00a0the issuance of a visa, which remains subject to the outcome of the checks required by current legislation and to the discretionary assessment of the Consular Authority.<\/p>\n<p>VFS Global C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire is\u00a0<strong>exclusively responsible for receiving and returning documentation to applicants<\/strong>. It has no role in the examination or decision-making process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Who can apply for a visa at the Embassy of Italy in Abidjan?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Visa Office first verifies whether it is competent to process the application. Specifically:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Territorial competence:\u00a0<\/strong>applicants must be\u00a0<strong>citizens and\/or legal residents of the consular district (Burkina Faso, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Liberia, Niger, and Sierra Leone)<\/strong>\u00a0or be\u00a0<strong>legally present<\/strong>\u00a0there. In the latter case, they must provide adequate justification for not applying at the consulate competent for their habitual residence. To this end, they must present an\u00a0<strong>identity document<\/strong>\u00a0(for citizens of the above\u2011mentioned States) or a\u00a0<strong>residence certificate<\/strong>\u00a0supported by\u00a0<strong>objective proof of stable and legal residence<\/strong>\u00a0in one of the countries of the district (e.g., long\u2011term lease agreement, electricity or rent payment receipts for the last 6 months, entry stamp dated within the last 6 months, etc.) for all other nationalities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Material competence:\u00a0<\/strong>Italy must be the<strong>\u00a0sole or main destination<\/strong>\u00a0of the trip.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the Embassy is not competent, the application will be returned to the applicant together with all documents, the visa fee will be refunded, and a\u00a0<strong>written decision of incompetence<\/strong>\u00a0will be issued.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applicants are therefore strongly advised to verify which Italian Embassy or Consulate is competent before submitting their application.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>How to apply for a visa?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>To apply for a visa, applicants must\u00a0<strong>independently book an appointment<\/strong>\u00a0through the official portal of VFS Global C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire \u2013 Italy (<a href=\"https:\/\/visa.vfsglobal.com\/civ\/fr\/ita\">https:\/\/visa.vfsglobal.com\/civ\/fr\/ita<\/a>), which is mandatory for all applicants pursuant to\u00a0<strong>Recital 6 of Regulation (EU) 2019\/1155<\/strong>. The only exception concerns\u00a0<strong>family members of EU citizens<\/strong>, who, under\u00a0<strong>Article 5(2) of Directive 2004\/38\/EC<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Legislative Decree 30\/2007<\/strong>, are entitled to\u00a0<strong>priority and free processing<\/strong>\u00a0of their visa applications. Additional exceptions may be granted by the Head of the Consular Section only in\u00a0<strong>exceptional cases<\/strong>, following a case\u2011by\u2011case assessment of documented urgent and necessary circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since 17 November 2025<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>waiting\u2011list\u00a0<\/strong>function is available, allowing users to register when no slots are available and to be notified automatically when an appointment opens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Appointment booking is always FREE OF CHARGE<\/strong>. Users are urged to\u00a0<strong>report<\/strong>\u00a0any attempt to\u00a0<strong>sell<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>broker<\/strong>\u00a0appointments and\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0to make any payment, as it may constitute fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Once the appointment is booked, the application must be submitted\u00a0<strong>in person<\/strong>\u00a0at the VFS Global C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire office, located at Rue des Carrossiers, Treichville zone 3, Centre commercial HLM, ground floor, Abidjan.\u00a0<strong>Personal submission<\/strong>\u00a0is required to ensure proper identification of the applicant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sending the application form or supporting documents by email does not constitute under any circumstances a visa application.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>When should the visa be requested?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Under current legislation, the visa application must be submitted\u00a0<strong>no more than six months before<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>no later than 15 calendar days before<\/strong>\u00a0the planned date of travel. Applications that do not comply with these legal deadlines will be declared\u00a0<strong>inadmissible<\/strong>\u00a0under\u00a0<strong>Article 19 of the Visa Code<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Which documents are required?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The application must include the\u00a0<strong>minimum elements<\/strong>\u00a0required by\u00a0<strong>Article 19 of the Visa Code<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Duly filled and signed application form<\/strong>\u00a0(click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/le-visa-pour-litalie\/il-visto-per-litalia-modulistica-essenziale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>to download the forms).\u00a0<strong>PLEASE NOTE: the form is always FREE<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valid travel document<\/strong>\u00a0(minimum validity of three months after the planned departure from the Schengen area; at least two blank pages; issued within the previous ten years), plus a photocopy of the bio\u2011data page;<\/li>\n<li><b>One\u00a0<\/b>ICAO\u2011compliant\u00a0<strong>passport photo<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Payment of visa fees\u00a0<\/strong>(click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Tabella-dei-diritti-percepiti-per-i-visti-gennaio-2026-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>to check the current fees);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supporting documents<\/strong>\u00a0for the trip, in duplicate (originals and copies);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adequate and valid health insurance<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>exemptions<\/strong>\u00a0apply to\u00a0<strong>holders of diplomatic passports<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>family members of EU citizens<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Biometric data collection<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Biometric data<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>fingerprints<\/strong>) are required for\u00a0<strong>all visa applications.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>As of January 2025<\/strong>, fingerprinting is\u00a0<strong>also<\/strong>\u00a0mandatory for\u00a0<strong>national visas<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>(type D)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exceptions<\/strong>\u00a0to fingerprinting are\u00a0<strong>strictly limited<\/strong>\u00a0to those listed in\u00a0<strong>Article 13 of the Visa Code<\/strong>\u00a0(children under 12 years old; physical impossibility; Heads of State or Government and their respective delegations on official missions).<\/p>\n<p>Once collected,\u00a0<strong>fingerprints remain valid for 59 months<\/strong>\u00a0and do not need to be taken again for subsequent visa applications submitted within that period. If the visa applicant has already provided fingerprints within the previous 59 months for the same visa category (\u201cC\u201d or \u201cD\u201d), the applicant may therefore choose to submit the application through a trusted representative, who must be duly authorized and present a photocopy of the applicant\u2019s identity document, dated and signed by the applicant.<\/p>\n<p>If even one of the above\u2011mentioned requirements is missing, the application will be returned to the applicant together with the attached documents, the visa fee will be refunded, and\u00a0<strong>a written and duly reasoned decision of inadmissibility<\/strong>\u00a0will be issued.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>How much does the visa cost?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Applicants must pay:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Visa fees<\/strong>, established by the applicable legislation and periodically updated. The table of fees currently in force can be consulted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambabidjan.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Tabella-dei-diritti-percepiti-per-i-visti-gennaio-2026-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mandatory service fees<\/strong>\u00a0applied by\u00a0<strong>VFS<\/strong>\u00a0(currently CFA 11,300, approx. EUR 17.22);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Optional service fees<\/strong>\u00a0(photocopies, courier return of passport, VIP lounge, etc.) offered by\u00a0<strong>VFS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:\u00a0no other fees exist beyond those explicitly listed on this website.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What to do in case of visa refusal?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>If the visa is\u00a0<strong>refused<\/strong>, the applicant may appeal to the\u00a0<strong>Regional Administrative Court (TAR) of Lazio \u2013 Rome<\/strong>, which is competent for decisions issued by diplomatic\u2011consular authorities. The appeal must be filed\u00a0<strong>within 60 days<\/strong>\u00a0of notification of the refusal, or\u00a0<strong>within 90 days if the applicant resides in an EU country<\/strong>, or<strong>\u00a0within 150 days if residing outside the EU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For visas related to\u00a0<strong>family reunification<\/strong>, a different remedy applies: the appeal must be filed by the family member residing in Italy before the\u00a0<strong>competent Italian Ordinary Court<\/strong>, based on their residence.\u00a0<strong>No statutory deadline applies<\/strong>, and the appeal may be filed at any time after the refusal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Additional useful information<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>For more information on each visa category, you may consult the official portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, \u201cVisa for Italy\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it\/\">https:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it<\/a>).
